Hurricane Manuel - Courtesy, Baja Insider: A Hurricane warning has been posted for the southern most portions of the peninsula. Hurricane Manuel has formed and is headed for a rendezvous with Baja California Sur this evening and into Thursday.

As of 3PM MDT this afternoon, a Hurricane Warning has been issued for the southern portions of Baja California Sur from San Evaristo on the Sea of Cortez, around to Magdalena Bay on the Pacific side. This will include the population centers of La Paz, East Cape, San Jose del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos.

Hurricane Manuel formed very close to Baja, just 130 miles to the southeast and is one of the fastest moving storms we have seen, racing to the northwest at 21kts. As of 5PM MDT the storm was just 40 miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas. Effects of the storm are already beginning to be felt along the southeastern edge of the peninsula, including San Jose del Cabo. Hurricane Force conditions are expected through the night tonight in the warning areas.

We will continue to update our information live from La Paz through the night, as long as power and internet hold out. As of 6PM we have had rain, moderate at times, for a few minutes today, currently with threatening skies.

Manuel is a small, fast moving storm but a Hurricane, not a hurricane. Preparations for winds to 50kts, heavy rain and arroyo flooding should be rushed to completion. Run-off from the storm may be higher than normal as the ground is still absorbing the moisture from this past week's TS Ivo.
