Land Use Planning Project Launched For Ejido San Javier - Niparajá, AC, recently launched a sustainable rural planning project for Ejido San Javier in coordination with the National Forestry Commission, the Baja California Sur State Government, the Municipality of Loreto, the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur, Eco-Alianza, AC, and Living Roots.

This is Niparajá's second rural planning project, the first was developed three years ago in the community of Las Animas, located in the Municipality of La Paz. With the concurrence of residents, Niparajá formed a technical group to develop a prepare a Community Land Management Study, which identified traditional land use practices according to the needs of community members. This study focused on resources in common, recognized by the community as essential to protect. Benefits from the process helped to strengthen community organization, improve management skills, facilitate decision-making and resolve social conflicts. The Las Animas project demonstrated a model of sustainable development, allowing other communities to understand and adopt a similar process.

In Ejido San Javier, residents will develop a description of the social, cultural, economic and environmental components present in the Ejido. Information will be gathered, analysed, and applied to a working plan, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life and sustainable use of natural resources. The planning process will be developed through community involvement, including workshops, community mapping exercises, personal interviews, surveys and field trips.

Government, civil society and communities, are beginning to see the benefits of community-based, participatory land-use planning process, as a viable strategy to conservation planning. This model is a relatively new concept in Mexico, weaving together social development and land use conservation, providing a solid base for the preservation of culture and sustainable use of natural resources. - Francisco Olmos, folmos [- at -] niparaja.org, www.niparaja.org, 612-122-1171, Loreto

Update On Armando Molina's Condition And Requirementss - As of Thursday afternoon, Armando has not had the surgery to correct fracture of right knee and leg. It has been postponed until Friday evening. He was rather heavily sedated when I spoke to him, but he said he was not in pain.

The ongoing saga of blood donations continues. There is a very persistent Off Road Racer in the US named Mike who is gallantly perusing the correct avenues of donating blood in the US and having it sent down to La Paz for Armando. He has been met by many obstacles and yet he refuses to throw in the towel. So far, he has found out that all blood donated in Mexico has to be tested for Malaria. The US does not have a Malaria problem so a test is not required. So, now he is seeking some Mexican medical authority to declare in writing that they will accept the US blood without testing it for Malaria and PRE-CLEAR it in customs. I think you can all see where this could end up, with the blood just sitting somewhere in obscurity, waiting, while it's viability slips away. But Mike is a persistent man, and I do not think he will give up. If the blood does not get here in time to be used for Armando, then it will at least credit his blood bank "account". So thank you, Mike and Tessa. This will be a valuable lesson that could save one of us in the future. When it gets figured out, I hope the information will be shared on the Pony. Maybe Char has some insight into this matter.

Now, I am sending out another request to the amazing East Cape community. Armando has a broken clavicle, arm and hand, and two broken legs. He will not be ambulatory for quite a while. And with a broken arm, crutches are out of the picture. He asked me today if I could bring him a wheelchair when I return next week to Los Barriles. Before I undertake that assignment, shopping around in Las Vegas in 110 degree heat, and dragging one down in my little car, I am asking if anyone in the community, please, could loan him one for 6-8 weeks. It would have to be adult size, and have foot/leg supports. Nothing fancy. Please ask around to your neighbors who may not read the BPE. Maybe one is sitting around in a bodega waiting for the user to return in the winter. If you have one available, please let me know as soon as possible.

Again, I thank you all for your encouraging words and prayers to Armando and his family. He has received all the messages you have sent me and he and Paulie are overwhelmed by your show of support and kind words. Sun Pumps 1,200 Watt DC Solar Well Pump Controller - High-power pump controller, intended for pumping higher water volumes from greater depths. This model is designed to work with brushless DC pump motors only.

SunPumps PCB series Pump Controllers are high-quality, micro-processor controlled, DC-power converters designed as the interface between a DC-powered pump and the DC power source. The DC source may be solar modules, batteries, or systems using wind generators. The main purpose of the SunPumps PC-series controller is to maximize the total daily water delivery while providing protection for the pump as well as the power source. It boosts the current of solar modules in low sunlight conditions while holding the voltage of the solar modules at the maximum power point. This allows a pump to start earlier in the morning and stay running later into the evening.

If you are not able to bring one of these sweethearts into your home, you could consider sponsoring the kitty of your choice for only $10.00 U.S. a month. That's all it takes to provide food, shelter, and medical care for a local animal. We will send you a photo of your chosen kitty, and if you are in Todos Santos, you can visit "your" happy pet, and even give her/him a name. What an opportunity to help a fellow creature! To learn more about sponsoring a homeless critter, please contact Angelique at bajakitties [- at -] yahoo.com, www.bajarescue.com, 145-0250
