Skilled Dog Trainer Found! - You may have seen my yelps for help in BWO re: my large/energetic Belgian Shepherd pup. I’ve been her obedience trainer for 7 months ... an amazing challenge. She is now benefiting from a residential month in a modest/spacious dog school (Puro Perro) in CSL with Enrique Morales Perron who has a natural gift (and education) for training dogs. From the initial interview through the first of the three sessions in which I join my dog and Enrique for my part of the training, I am thrilled at how his capacity for communication is enriching her life and mine. AND ... I was genuinely astounded, after perusing US prices, at the very low cost for her month’s residence. No treats, no hitting, no electric collar and she is so calm we walked through the Marina and Tiangus without a hitch, totally relaxed while surrounded by people, noises, carts and all that entails. We now have a resource for further training, boarding and canine help. Enrique is willing to come to Todos Santos to do workshops and/or weekly obedience training. www.zen-can.com, Enrique [- at -] zen-can.com. Thanks, Janel Beeman - Janel

Cinco De Mayo / Fifth Of May - Saturday, May 05 will see the celebration of Cinco De Mayo throughout Mexico and the US. Cinco De Mayo celebrates the victory of the Mexican Army against French forces in the city of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. Some historians argue that one of France's goals in invading Mexico was to help break up the American Union. Donald W. Miles wrote, "Napoleon III had hesitated to take on the US directly, but the Civil War changed everything." It meant that the Americans would be occupied with their conflict between North and South for some time. Napoleon decided he would send the French navy, and crown his own emperor in Mexico. He could then use Mexico as a base to help the Confederates win.

Dr. Miles concludes, "The Emperor of France ordered his generals to spend a few months taking on Mexico and then - using Mexico as a 'base' - help the Confederates win their war against the United States. What if they had succeeded? The United States may never have become a significant world power. By defeating the French army, the Mexicans not only took their nation back, but influenced the outcome of the U.S. Civil War.

Widely celebrated in the United States, the US "celebration" is largely a result of promotions by liquor and beer distributors, bars, clubs and restaurants since the 1980s. For many years, these celebrations promoted Cinco de Mayo as Mexican Independence Day which is actually September 16. Although Mexican citizens are proud of the meaning of Cinco de Mayo, it's not a national holiday in Mexico, but it is an official holiday in the State of Puebla where the battle took place. Free Cloud Storage Of Important Information - These are great free services, and recent entries to the market of microsoft and google should tell you something. I have been using box.net for years and find it so valuable. But I have to say their free service is nothing compared to the benefits to Microsoft's free skydrive or googles free new (as of Tuesday) google drive.

These are great for everyone. You have access to most if not all your information anywhere in the world. And it is the ideal backup because it will always keep you most recent changes online. So if you have a computer/hard drive crash all your important information is still recoverable.

I keep copies of important documents like passport, visa, plane tickets, credit card co phone numbers, bank phone numbers, cell phone company and on and on. These are accessible via your smart phone and other computers by you anywhere in the world. Jill Casty's Show At La Encantada, La Paz - Thank you to all who were able to come to the opening of my show last Saturday evening. It was a wonderful opening with a tremendous presentation by Dana from Gallery Pez Gordo in Palmilla and Lila Magallon of La Encantada. And a very good turnout. To all who weren’t able to make the opening night – the show will be at La Encantada in La Paz until mid-May. I’ll be happy to meet you there if you like, or go and see it on your own and be in touch.

Lila and friends did a beautiful job of hanging my work. The glass and metal sculptures, the paintings and the pendants. It’s wonderful to see all the work so well displayed and in such a lovely setting. La Encantada is open every evening from 5 pm - ? The garden is lovely and a most congenial place to sit, wine, dine, visit, relax etc.

There’s a wonderful young chef, Jose Luis, who makes snacks and dinner every evening. On Wednesdays, they have a special – with chef Andrea from Argentina – of Argentinian grilled meats cooked on the Bar-b-que. On Friday and Saturday evenings there’s music as well. La Encantada is on Belisario Dominguez between 5 de Mayo and Constitucion in La Paz. - Jill Casty, jillcastyglassart [- at -] gmail.com, www.jillcastyglassart.com, 612-167-2674, United States
