News and Events, Questions and AnswersSecretary Of Tourism Reaches Out To English Speakers. - The Secretary of Tourism in Baja California Sur has started their English Facebook page with everything that one needs to know about this beautiful state. Presentation By U.S. Consulate General - Courtesy Baja Pony Express - Last week the Rotary Club of Los Barriles Cabo Este hosted the U.S. Consulate General's office. Sarah Smith the Deputy Chief of American Citizens U.S. Consulate General office Tijuana addressed how her office can help American Citizens. If you missed this presentation you can see a video replay of it on our website: www.losbarrilesrotaryclub.org. Flying From La Paz to Sacramento (or to Just About Anywhere in the US) - Volaris has recently added some new routes. If you can pick your dates based on cost, take a $163 US 1-stop flight on Volaris from La Paz to Las Vegas thru Guadalajara (www.volaris.com.mx/en/), then take a $69 US nonstop flight on Southwest from Las Vegas to Sacramento (www.southwest.com). Total cost: about $232 US. Round trip tickets are at similar low prices. For many connections, this is better and cheaper than taking Volaris to Tijuana, then crossing the border and taking a taxi to the San Diego airport, because you don't have to leave the airports or cross the border on foot. Footnote: Watch out for Volaris' "Gotcha!" on their cheapest tickets. You can only check a single 15Kg bag (33 Lbs). Any more than that and you'll pay $10 US for each Kg over the limit. This cost me $80 US on my last trip, more than I would have paid had I purchased the more expensive ticket that allowed 25 Kg (55 Lbs). Volaris and Southwest have recently begun partnering, so the route between La Paz to Sacramento, and other Western cities, may get even easier in the near future. - Alan, alan [- at -] BajaSatellite.com, Todos Santos Need Ride To San Jose Airport This Friday! - Anyone willing to give me a ride to the airport this friday?? Thank You - Carlos Carlos, carlomaria [- at -] sbcglobal.net, 145-0028 New Prodigy Modems - Courtesy Baja Pony Express - Prodigy (our internet service provider in Mexico) has switched to a new modem provider. The modem is the device that connects your telephone dsl signal to your computers. They no longer carry the 2Wire Products. The most common failure of the 2Wire Modem is the power supply, that little back thing that plugs into the wall. I have my power supply plugged into a Battery Backup System (UPS). The most common cause of the power supply failure is the "brown out". The battery backups protect against those failures. The new Prodigy replacement modems have a very high rate of failure with all the components. Personally, I keep two spare 2Wire Modems on hand and two power supplies. Here is a link to purchase a power supply from Amazon: (http://www.amazon.com/2Wire-Supply-Models-1701HG-2700HG/dp/B0014HH8GW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330443269&sr=8-2) thecomputerguy, thecomputerguy [- at -] usa.com. The documentation should verify that the dog has received all its shots. Do Not Try To Use A Photocopy. Rabies Shot not over 1 year old. (yes in the states it is 3 years but not Mexico Upon arriving at the airport, after clearing customs you will need to import the dog. This is pretty painless. They take your health certificate back to the office photocopy it and bring you the import papers with an official stamp. Hope that helps. Jim Hall (2) Mexico Customs, currency & airport tax regulations details: www.iatatravelcentre.com/MX-Mexico-customs-currency-airport-tax-regulations-details.htm. All pets require a veterinary health certificate, issued not more than 5 days before arrival. For dogs and cats, health certificate must include: - (for pets older than 3 months) rabies vaccination history issued within 12 months before arrival [NOTE: Rule has changed since 2009. Now every 3 years - Editor]. If rabies vaccination history is not included, rabies vaccination certificate must be attached. - attestation that the pet is free from ECTO and ENDO parasites (or a deworming certificate). Further information can be found at: www.senasica.gob.mx ("Phytozoosanitary Inspection" and "When travelling, bring your pet"). And for a much more detailed description of the process: www.senasica.gob.mx/?Idioma=2&id=623 - Sheryl, Owner of La Paz Gringos Mexico recently changed the rabies policy. We flew into SJD In October and were asked to present health certificates for our dog and cat. They registered the animals and presented me with papers welcoming them into Mexico. The person who helped us also told me that the policy for rabies had changed in Mexico from a shot each year had changed to a shot every three years, just like in the USA.
