Balancing Our Pacific Ocean - Todos Santos has been identified as one of the important nesting sites for the Leatherback Sea Turtle (dermochelys coriacea). You may have even seen one, as the majority of Leatherback nests in this region are laid between Las Tunas and Agua Blanca. But did you know it is imperitive that all of these nests be protected from vehicular traffic, coyotes, poachers and low temperatures?

If the Leatherback is lost in the Pacific, we will be directly effected as sea-jellies will over-populate and destroy fish populations. Maintaining balance in the Pacific Ocean should be one of our primary concerns. If you are expanding your business in Todos Santos, building your dream home, or simply enjoying your life in our beautiful coastal oasis, please consider supporting Tortugueros Las Playitas A.C.

This organization is striving to maintain the balance in the Pacific Ocean. However each month the organization struggles to buy gasoline and maintain atv's needed for their nightly egg-collection runs. The organization is currently in need of an ATV, a passanger van, greenhouse plastic, wood for framing the greenhouse, and as always gasoline, atv tires, headlamps and batteries. If you can donate any of these items, you would be helping maintain the balance in our Pacific Ocean. Please help if you can. For more info on the status of the Leatherback visit IUCN Red List at http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/6494/0 - Chelonia Mydas, bajacheloniamydas [ - a t - ] yahoo.com, www.todostortugueros.org, Todos Santos

Gracias for Your Donations! - Tortugueros Las Playitas would like to extend our sincere thanks to our wonderful Todos Santos community. We raised $593 USD during our Internet Fundraising Event Aug. 20-31! Gracias a Joyce, Sherri, Janning, Brian, Judy, Ray, Wendy, Ronald, Theodore, Justine, Mandi, Amber, Suzanne, and Jennifer. We now have gasoline for patrols covered through October. We also recieved a donation of one week at the SolMar in Cabo during November. Please look for our Silent Auction or contact us to place your bid. SolMar is the last resort on the Pacific, and this unit steps out onto the sand! - Tortugueros Las Playitas, tortugueroslasplayitas [ - a t - ] gmail.com, www.todostortugueros.org, 612-145-0353, Todos Santos

Discussion About Netflix Mexico - Courtesy La Paz Gringos - For those of you wondering how to get the 1 month free trial for Netflix, you just have to register as a new user and they'll ask you for your credit card info but they won't charge until next month, so if you cancel your subscription before the month ends you won't pay anything. I'd advise to cancel it 3or 4 days before so there is no confusion in case you don't want to keep the service. BTW, the free trial is for new members and some ex-members (they don't say which ex-members). Saludos Ing. Cesar A. Jimenez Ocampo

----------------------------

Netflix is here: signup.netflix.com - The link should open up with a signup to Mexico Netflix, assuming you are in Mexico. It asks for your location whilst filling in the forms anyway, so it shouldn't matter where you actually are so long as you fill in living in Mexico and Mexican account details etc.

I have written an english review of Netflix on my blog. I am not sure it will be all you expect it is. I recommend getting the free trial anyway, but I doubt too many will continue after that unless they start to turn it around in terms of the listings available to watch. Please read my full 2 page article at my blog: www.amistadrealtors.com/blog/2011/09/12/Netflix-arrives-in-mexico-is-it-worth-99-pesos-a-month/. It would be great to hear your views on Mexican Netflix once you explore its content etc.

It may not even be as simple as I initially thought. Having loaded a number more movies to see the quality I noticed that some are actually Spanish dub. There is no mention whether they are dubbed or not, and some even stating that they have subs do not appear to. The comments etc all appear to have been taken directly from the american website and therefore do not necessarily relate to the dubbed movie you are about to watch. Sorry I can't give a useful answer other than "try and see". Another reason I am disappointed with the launch. A few extra movies appear to have been added this week however from what I can see they are either bad quality disney tv channel movies (perhaps useful if you have children) and some terrible made for tv movies, not the good ones either that are made by sky etc.

Only the Mexican shows/movies are in Spanish. Those made in english are in english, from my experience this afternoon testing some that is. I found a way to change the language of Netflix movies when they appear in Spanish (assuming you want english that is). Simply load a movie and if it is dubbed into Spanish then simply click the bottom right button, "audio subtitles", and change to your preferred language. See more at my blog: www.amistadrealtors.com/blog/2011/09/16/Netflix-mexico-how-to-change-language-and-subtitles/ - Simon

----------------------------

Well to me Netflix is worth it. Been watching Netflix in Canada since it came out and have a Canadian account. I actually love the tv shows. Watch the whole series w/o waiting for a year or 2 or 3 to complete :) what you may not know. Is that the Canadian Netflix and I would think the american Netflix now work in Mexico. I have been watching my Canadian Netflix since Netflix opened in mexico. It's great! If youwant you can purchase a ps3 or a wii or any other neflix supported device and attach it directly to your tv and have it 24/7. Or do like I do and have it come to my laptop which I then wirelessly send to my 47 inch tv. Love it. If you want to see it, send me a note privately and you are more than welcome to watch. - Bajaheinz

Excellent New Restaurant In Cabo San Lucas - In case you haven't discovered it yet, do yourselves a big favor and stop by the new vegetarian restaurant "El Ameyal" in Cabo San Lucas. It is located at Km. 3.5, just beyond Artesanos on the same auxiliary road, behind the El Ameyal hotel with the big cascading fountain in front.

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., this charming restaurant serves delicious vegetarian creations, using all natural or organic ingredients, and serves 100% whole wheat, locally baked bread. The food is not just very fresh and nutritious, but truly gourmet. And their prices are more than fair, for breakfast, lunch, desserts, refreshing freshly made juices and aguas, and a wonderful Sunday brunch. If you've turned up your nose on vegetarian dining before, thinking it's all lettuce and carrots, this delightful restaurant is sure to change your mind.

They also invite their restaurant customers to enjoy their large swimming pool and gymnasium. A really nice alternative on a busy shopping day in Cabo! Contact me if you would like more information on their menu. Too many yummy things to mention here! - Melanie Salyer, salyer.melanie [ - a t - ] gmail.com, Rancho Nuevo

Looking For A Ride Share First Week in November. - I'm driving from Kelowna, British Columbia to Cabo first week of November. Will be traveling via I-5 through Oregon and California. Won't have much spare room for extra luggage, so if you travel light, are willing to share expenses and want to have a heck of a road trip, get back to me. I did this drive last year so I'm familiar with the route and the process. Will be crossing at TJ. I prefer to do the driving myself, but the company and second set of eyes are a plus. Thanks, Mirek - Mirek Hrabanek, canczech26 [ - a t - ] hotmail.com, Cabo San Lucas

Dog Found in La Poza - This dog has come to my home in La Poza. Appears to be well taken care of and may have run away with fireworks going off last night. He is a large dog, part Shepherd and Rottweiler in appearance. - Ruth Asercion, REAsercion [ - a t - ] hotmail.com, 612-145-1051

Missing Dog!!! - Zoë is a white cocker spaniel with light tan spots, and she has been missing since Sunday, Sept. 11, in Colonia Olivos (not too far from Padre Kino and 5 de Febrero, La Paz). We were out of town and had some friends taking care of her. Not sure what happened exactly, but she got out of their gate when they were gone Sunday morning. She has a grey collar, but no tags, unfortunately. She's eight years old, and has always been an inside dog. If you have seen her, or have any idea where she might be, please give us a call! We desperately want her back, and miss her! Thank you! - Stephanie Arteaga, 612-155-5555 or 612-117-3295

Missing Friend - Our friend went missing Thursday night (Sept. 8) We miss him and so does his buddy. He was last seen around the Sandbar. He is brown, short hair and has two scars (a large scar on his left flank and a thin white scar around his neck which was caused by a string he was tied up with when we rescued him). He has (had) a red collar. Instead of him moping around, feeling sad and lonely, why not bring him back and let him come home? He is not a stray and we would like him back home sleeping in his favorite spot. If anyone has seen him, please get in touch. email jimiykaren [ - a t - ] yahoo.com, phone 130-3022 - , jimiykaren [ - a t - ] yahoo.com, Pescadero
