The cost is $100 pesos for your meal (beer from the barrel sold separately). There will be live music and some raffles as well. Mexico Takes On Billionaire Carlos Slim - In a move that is sure to give hope to millions of Mexican cell and wired telephone users, the Mexican Government is attempting to rein in one of its biggest monopolies, the telecommunications companies owned by the world's richest man, Carlos "Slim" Helú (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Slim.
The battle looks set to play out alongside 2012 presidential election campaigns, as politicians latch on to rising consumer outrage over lack of choice for everything from cell phone providers to sliced bread. Just last month, regulators slapped a US$1-billion fine on Slim’s America Movil unit Telcel, which has 70% of the Mexican cell-phone market, for alleged market abuses.
The Supreme Court then ruled that companies such as Telcel, which has previously brought injunctions to hold off regulatory efforts to enforce competitive pricing, can no longer hold regulatory rulings hostage in the court system. Most recently, Mexico’s congress passed an anti-monopoly law which will threaten executives with jail terms, and President Felipe Calderon has made it clear that he wants more competition, including in telecommunications.
Mexico has the highest monthly subscription prices for basic broadband Internet connections, as well as the slowest advertised download speeds in the 34-nation Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (www.oecd.org/), according to data from September 2010. Fixed-line rental and telephone usage costs in Mexico are the fourth highest in the OECD , according to 2009 data. (Source: FinancialPost.com). ZIP Code Info - Courtesy La Paz Gringos - To find the locations of ZIP codes within Mexico and elsewhere, visit www.mapanet.es. Note at top right for language choice: Eng/Span. Select country: Mexico; select state: BCS; select: municipio. The colonias are listed alphabetically, scroll to the one you want, highlight and the map displays the general parameter of that ZIP code. For some of the more remote locations, re-size the selected area to see the location better. bnbnlapaz [-a t-] yahoo.com
Recycling Those Plastic Containers - If you're like me, you might prize those handy plastic containers with screw-on lids that some retail outlets like Costco use to package nuts and candies. They're great for storing all kinds of things; macaroni, flour, small parts, screws, nails, hardware, etc. They're tough, durable, and keep out moisture, dirt and pests. One problem with them, though, is removing those pesky labels. Here's a tip: Fill the container with hot water (careful!). The gummy glue holding the label will soften, and you can carefully and easily peel off the entire label and glue. (And don't forget to pour the used water in your garden, and not down the drain :) -
The Tax Collector's Bible - Courtesy La Paz Gringos - Most Canadians know that if you commit a murder, you're presumed innocent until proven guilty. It's the reverse with tax. If you're assessed with a tax debt by the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency), you're guilty until proven innocent. And if you don't know how to protect yourself, the CRA can wreak havoc in your life and, in some cases, they can destroy your entire financial base. Until now. A few days ago I downloaded a book, which, in my opinion is one of the most important books that any taxpayer in Canada can have. It's called, "The Tax Collector's Bible," and it's written by Alan Baggett, a former CRA agent. With this book you'll learn about the inner workings of the CRA, how tax is processed and collected, and most importantly, how to avoid it. For far too long, the CRA has had the upper hand against the taxpayer. The Tax Collector's Bible shows the reader how to level the playing field and how to win against the tax man. If you pay taxes in Canada, you need this book: - www.taxcollectorsbible.com
RE: Purple Pill Article - If you have taken the Reumofan Plus you should have a analysis to test liver function and discuss it with your Dr. - Name and Address Withheld by Request
RE: Purple Pill Warning Feedback - I personally contacted the manufacturer both in Mexico and the USA distributor when I first heard this rumor. I was then sent verification of ingredients and that steroid was not included. I have inquired again direct to the manufacturer. I would love to see this report for myself. This is a well respected product in the US. Did you know Mexico has an agency that checks products out and even goes to health food stores and removes products off the shelf, they even remove products that are expired. I use to own a Health Food store here in Mexico. This was a regular practice, so it would shock me if this was factual. Did you know there is a drugstore brand with the exact same name, sold here in Mexico. This product has that steroid ingredient. I am curious if this person mixed up the drug with the herbal product. Just a thought. I would welcome reviewing that report if the person is willing to send it to me. - Goria Shaw of Health Naturally, canadianbajarose [-a t-] yahoo.com, San Jose del Cabo
La Paz Pearls - Courtesy Baja Pony Express - Have you ever wondered about the famous La Paz pearls, prized worldwide and included in the crown jewels of the royalty of Spain, England and France? Twelve of us from Los Barriles had a wonderful weekend adventure and got the full story during a very interesting and informative tour (in English) conducted by Dr. Carlos Cáceres, the founder of Perlas del Cortez, www.perlasdelcortez.com, a pearl farm in La Paz.Dr. Cáceres is a professor at the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California Sur, conducting research on aquaculture and sustainably reviving pearl farming in Baja. Dr. Cáceres met us at our hotel on Sunday morning. Our first stop was at the Museum of Anthropology for the history and importance of pearling in Baja. We then drove to his pearl farm in Pichilingue where he explained and demonstrated, step-by-step, the process of collecting and growing oysters, seeding the oysters and ultimately harvesting the beautiful black pearls. It was fascinating. Dr. Cáceres enthusiasm and passion for not only pearls, but our wonderful natural environment is contagious. Thumbs up from all of us for Dr Cáceres and the tour. If you are interested in taking a tour, contact me for the details of our trip, or Dr. Carlos Cáceres at ccaceres [-a t-] uabcs.mx. To make it a really special weekend, go to La Paz on Saturday, spend the night and have dinner at Restaurante Las Tres Virgenes (Calle Madero #1130, between Constitution and Hildalgo). We think it's the best restaurant in Baja. - burgin.holly [-a t-] gmail.com, La Paz
