Eco Cafe Announcement - Our scheduled speaker for March 25th, Jesus Santana, is unfortunately unable to appear that evening; therefore, we regret we will have to cancel this Tuesday's Eco Café. We hope to be able to reschedule Senor Santana another time to share the historic Santana Family photos. See you again April 1st for Sergio Jauregui's presentation on the Sierra La Laguna. - Wendy Rains, wendy [-at-] buildinginbaja.com
"Jammin For The Animals" Update: - We're pleased to announce that we've already received commitments to perform by the very talented Jazz Violinist and Guitarist, Daniel Siqueiros, Jazz and Pop Vocalist, Tracy Monk Durland, and (of course) members of our own quartet, En Medio Del Ritmo. We will announce other artists throughout the week.
Since "Jammin For The Animals" is a non-profit fund raiser, we spent some time thinking about what to charge. We wanted to make it very affordable for everyone, yet still make a little money for El Refugio. We're pleased to announce that tickets will go on sale Monday for only $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. We think that's a bargain for a day full of good music while helping out for a good cause. We'll also be serving free snacks and goodies, and the bar will be open for beer, wine, cocktails and soft drinks. Tickets will be available at El Tecolote Book Store, Maya Roca Realty, La Cañada Del Diablo, and from Maryanne Douglas and me.
We're still looking to hear from musicians, groups, singers and entertainers of all varieties and skill levels so we can plan the line up for the event. We're also looking for volunteers to help with the event. To add your name to the list, or if you have questions or special needs for setup or backup, please call or e mail me as soon as possible. - Alan, alan [-at-] baja1.com, 612 117 0484.
"Jammin For The Animals" will be held on Sunday, March 30 at La Cañada Del Diablo in Todos Santos, starting at 3 PM. Proceeds will be used to help Mariposa and Memo at the El Refugio Animal Rescue in Pescadero to buy dog food for their "kids." Our thanks to everyone for helping to make this happen on such short notice.
Article Missing From Clothing Exchange - There was a yellow gold piece of fabric on the end of the bed in the room where women were trying on clothes. It is a weaving I just brought back from Guatemala. I have a feeling it might have gotten mixed up with someones clothes. If you have it, could you please, please return it. Thanks so much. - Janna Kinkade, jannakin [-at-] hotmail.com, 145-0716

Absentee Voting - I got one package of material to register absentee voters from Mary Cody, and another year I may have gotten material from the Democrats Abroad organization in Guadalajara. Query them for more info. - Lee Moore, bajalee [-at-] aol.com, 122 8694
Volunteer Needed For La Poza Signs - I need to find a person or two to help me install a heavy, metal sign at the end of La Cachora road. I have received permission to place the sign, I just don't have the manpower to dig the hole and mix the cement. The sign is bilingual and warns of the danger of La Poza breaking open, and also of the danger of the waves. Any volunteers? Thanks! - Serena Saltzman, brentserena [-at-] gmail, 612 13 28913 movistar, Todos Santos
What are the Regulations? - Sylvia wrote: "For any construction that is occurring now on ocean front property the process began long before the latest changes in the limitations and was approved before those changes." What are the regulations governing the construction occurring now? Past postings in the Onion asking that violations be reported to PROFEPA are meaningless if the regulations are a secret. - Robert Brown, robert.garth.brown [-at-] gmail.com, Todos Santos
Attention Victim Of Crimes !! - Yesterday I spoke to the new Comandante at the Todos Santos Policia Minesterial regarding all the robberies taking place in our vicinity. According to him recently there was a "witch hunt" to get him and to make him look bad. He said someone (without getting too specific) had an announcement on those car-speaker rigs broadcasting that he's not doing his job. He also mentioned that 2-3 town meetings were held to clarify the issues, and that most of the items robbed were returned to their legal owners, after they caught the robbers (mostly coming from the mainland).
I sure don't want to get involved in the "he said and then she said" game. I just want to help those victims of crimes by reporting their incident to me, if you wish, and I'll relay it to the Comandante for fast action and results. The main message the Comandante has for all of us is: "Keep your house and car windows and doors locked when you are not there. Prevention is the best defense, don't tempt the crooks!!" - Bill Herrera, bill [-at-] paraisocalifornia.com, 044-612-132-4710, Pescadero
RE: Burglaries - I want to pass along that one of the recent victims of a burglary had posted a reward for the return of their stolen items. In short order, the police showed up at the door with the stolen goods. They had apprehended the perps, knew about the reward, and were happy to collect it. Draw your own conclusions but it certainly can't hurt to post a reward to try and get your stuff back. - Alan
Tree Trimmer Needed - I have many trees on my property that are in desperate need of pruning. I need to hire someone with a chain saw. Can anyone recommend someone who can do the job for me? Thanks, Barbara Fleming, mangosts [-at-] prodigy.net.mx, 145 0451, Todos Santos
Direct Flights to Puerto Vallarta - In answer to the posting about direct flights to Puerto Vallarta, there are none. But my wife and I flew on Aereocalafia from the Cabo San Lucas airport with one quick stop in Mazatlan to drop/pickup passengers, then on to Puerto Vallarta. It's a very well-maintained and clean, albeit a bit tight, 12-seat Cessna Caraban. They have an office in Hotel Tesoro and it's a totally professional operation. Hope this helps, Phil
